About the Chamblee Fun Mud Run

The Chamblee Fun Mud Run is a 5K run with obstacles, water and mud, benefitting the Chamblee Middle School Education Foundation. Presented by Ed Voyles Automotive, the Chamblee Fun Mud Run will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 8 am at Chamblee Middle School. The event is hosted by the CMS Education Foundation, the City of Chamblee and DeKalb County Fire & Rescue.

Please click HERE to see the article regarding the 21st Century Classroom that was featured in the Chamblee and Brookhaven Posts.

The inaugural Chamblee Fun Mud Run was held on May 2, 2015. It drew over 800 participants and raised $22,500 to directly benefit the Chamblee Middle School Education Foundation. The 2016 race quickly grew to 1,200 participants and raised $43,000 for the students and teachers of CMS.

Money raised from this event has been used to support CMS students and teachers by funding:

In only two years, this unique spin on your everyday 5K has become a fast favorite in the area, literally putting Chamblee Middle School on the map in the hearts and minds of the community.

The race takes place at Chamblee Middle School and the 5K course winds through the streets of the Keswick Village and Sexton Woods neighborhoods. Participants complete several different obstacles with mud and water features throughout various locations in Keswick Park.

The Chamblee Fun Mud Run 5K is open to the community, and is recommended for children ages 8 and up.

Muddy Buddy

There is also a 3K Muddy Buddy race (just under 2 miles) immediately following the Chamblee Fun Mud Run, recommended for children ages 5 and up, as well as anyone else who wants to try out the mud obstacles, but run a shorter course. This is not a timed race so it's a good option for younger children or anyone who wants to participate and have fun but does not want to get muddy/dirty. Just come on out and run, jog, walk and complete any obstacles that you'd like.

Children ages 5-7 MUST be accompanied by a REGISTERED parent or guardian during the race and through the obstacles. The Muddy Buddy estimated start time is 8:45am.

Cancellations, Refunds and Transfers

Please note that the registration system allows registrations to be cancelled for about 15 minutes after the transaction is processed. After that time, we are unable to process any refunds. We also highly discourage participants to transfer, buy and sell race registrations, or give registrations to each other outside of the registration system. This means that people are participating in the race who are not technically in our system and have not signed a waiver. This is a safety and liability issue for the school and foundation, so we would appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation. If you find you are unable to participate for any reason after you've registered, please consider your registration a donation to the CMS Education Foundation. You can still claim your race t shirt, bag and giveaways at Race Bag Pickup!

Late Registrations

This event will cap at 1,500 5K participants. If space allows, we will accept onsite registrations April 28 & 29 at packet pickup and on the morning of the race on a limited basis between 6:45-7:30 am. The cost for either race is $40, cash or credit card only.

Please note that onsite registrants Friday and Saturday are NOT guaranteed a race shirt and bag, and may not receive a timing device. These will be available as supplies last on race day. Late registrants may visit the registration table after the race to claim any leftover shirts and bags. For this reason, we highly recommend registering online before the April 25 deadline!

Race Bag Pickup

All participants who register online via runsignup.com before the April 25 deadline are guaranteed a t shirt and race bag at race bag pickup. Race bag pickup will be in a different location this year at The Chamblee Civic Center (3520 Broad Street, Chamblee, GA 30341) from 11 am to 4 pm on Friday, April 28.

Race Bag Pickup will continue at our Food Truck Event at Keswick Park's Upper Soccer Field (3496 Keswick Dr, Chamblee, GA 30341) on Friday evening from 5-9 pm.

If you find yourself unable to participate in the race, please feel free to pick up your bag to claim your race t-shirt, bag, and other giveaways. Any unclaimed items will be forfeited after the close of the event at 10 am.

You may have a friend or neighbor pick up your race bag for you.

Please take into account the 10 minute walk from the parking lot at Chamblee Charter High School to the starting area at CMS.

Parking Instructions

Parking for all runners and spectators is at Chamblee Charter High School (3688 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341). Streets surrounding the middle school will be closed. Please allow at least 10 minutes to park and walk to the race staging area. Rain or Shine

In the event of inclement weather involving lightening or hazardous conditions, please check our website home page at www.chambleefunmudrun.com for up to date information, or follow us on social media (Facebook, Twitter) for instant updates.

No Refunds

This event is a school fundraiser that is completely volunteer-run. While we appreciate that schedules change and things come up, we have a strict, no-refund policy for those registrants who find themselves unable to participate on race day.

In fact, even if you aren't sure you can participate, why not register anyway! Consider it a donation to the CMS Education Foundation, plus you still get your t-shirt and race bag!

Any items (bags, t shirts, giveaways) that are not claimed by the end of the event on Saturday will be forfeited. There will not be an option to claim these items after race day, so if you want your race bag but can't participate, please come to bag pick up at Chamblee Civic Center or at the Food Truck Event, or ask a friend or neighbor pick yours up for you.

Race Results

Results will be posted at the end of the 5K. Results will also be posted to our website made available via text for runners who sign up for text alerts. Awards will be provided to the top 3 male and female winners, along with winners from each age group by gender. The Muddy Buddy is not a timed event.

What to Wear and Bring

All participants will get MUDDY and WET! PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY — wear old shoes and clothes! The clothes/shoes you wear for the race may become permanently stained. Additionally, due to the nature of the race, we recommend that NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES should be carried by race participants, and NO JEWELRY of any kind be worn by participants (One year, a wedding band was lost forever in the mud).

Shoes left at the race will be cleaned and recycled into playground material by Big Peach Running Co.

That said, we hope you'll wear a t-shirt that represents your school, club, etc.!

We will have some towels on hand this year, but it would be a great idea to bring towels with you if it's a chilly morning and/or leave some towels in the car to protect from mud.

Waivers

No one will be allowed to participate without having checked the box to sign our waivers during the registration process. Parents/guardians must sign waivers on behalf of underage children and anyone else they register. Registrants who sign up offline will be required to sign a paper waiver. Please note that our waivers include a photo/video release, so pictures of your child(ren) may be used in promotion materials, on social media, in local media news, etc.

Read the waiver here.

Finish Line & Festival

The start and finish area of the race are located on the Chamblee Middle School grounds on the North side of the campus, where the track and tennis court are located. Come and enjoy the excitement of race day, which will include pre-race warm ups, music, sponsor booths and giveaways, post-race refreshments, wash-off and towel stations, real-time race results, awards ceremony for winners and more!

Pets/Strollers

Absolutely no pets or strollers are allowed on the race course.

First Aid, Restrooms, Water, Bag Check

In the case of an emergency, please let one of our volunteers, police officers, firemen or EMS teams know immediately. We will have an emergency first aid area available at the start/finish area.

Restroom facilities and water stations will be available at the start/finish area, as well as stationed in spots along the course.

This year there will be a Bag Check in the tennis court area, where you can place your personal belongings in a bag to check for safekeeping. However, the Chamblee Fun Mud Run Committee, Chamblee Middle School, and its volunteers cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items. Please plan accordingly and do not plan to check valuables, large amount of cash, expensive cameras, cell phones, etc.
